DRAVIT xx Magnesium TURMALINE
Name after the first discovery site ( TYPLOKALITäT), which is located in the extreme southeast of Carinthia near Unterdrauburg.
First described by the Austrian scientist Prof. Tschermak in 1883. This until then completely unknown ORANGE BRAUNE TURMALIN variety was a mineralogical sensation and the crystals were presented in many museums and exhibitions.
Again to the name: The river DRAU flows from South Tyrol via East Tyrol through Carinthia to Slovenia to the Danube. The site was located in DOBROVA/UNTERDRAUBURG near the Drava River. Since the site is located in the Slovenian language area, the DRAU is called DRAVE there – hence the name DRAVIT.
