HüttenbergER “AMETHYST” was the name given to these pieces by the miners at that time.
AMETHYST as such is of course not!
The small, clear quartz crystals get this bluish-violet color through the layers of blue CHALCEDON on which they are grown.
The parent rock is SIDERITE – brown ironstone, iron ions give the otherwise white CHALCEDON its bluish colour.
Old piece from mining operations that closed back in the 1970s.
