Shell screen – Bleiberg/Kreuth

Very nice shell screen from old mining .

Shell orifice is an aggregate with alternating proportions of

Zinc blende = sphalerite, wurzite, calcite and galena = galenite

However, the beautiful, metallic high-gloss finish can only be seen on polished surfaces – the natural side can be seen in the last photos.

Shell screens are only found at very few sites worldwide.

This piece was made many decades ago in the former mining district of

Bleiberg/Kreuth in Carinthia — Austria found.
