Deep black tourmaline crystals on high-gloss muscovite mica
This piece comes from the old stock of a Carinthian collector, unfortunately without a description - unfortunately we can no longer ask the collector.
After extensive research we were able to determine the location to some extent, as we have not found comparable pieces anywhere.
On the Carinthian Saualpe - a mountain range in the east of Carinthia - approx. 20 km long and 2,000 meters high -
From 1940 there was an open-cast mine for mica, but mining was discontinued at the beginning of 1960.
St. Leonhard auf der Saualpe - large - high-gloss muscovite - aluminum mica packages
Tourmaline, garnet, quartz, etc. can also be found in this area.
The Saualpe is one of the most mineral-rich areas in the world with several type localities -
e.g. ecologite, zoisite, löllingite and famous mines such as Hüttenberg.
