DRAVITES are brown MAGNESIUM TURMALINES that were first described in 1883 by the Austrian scientist Prof. Tschermak. These MAGNESIUM TURMALINES became a worldwide RARITY and were presented in all museums and exhibitions. The TURMALINE GROUP, unknown until then, was named after the site where it was found, which is located near the DRAUFLUSS. The site is located on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia - directly on the southern border of Carinthia. The DRAU (flows through Carinthia and Slovenia to the Danube) is called DRAVE in Slovenia - hence the name DRAVIT, which is used WORLDWIDE for this TURMALINE VARIETY. No new specimens of this TYPLOKALITY have appeared for 40 years and we have been able to acquire several from a well-known mineral collector and will gradually present them here. Collectors should act quickly - nobody has anything to offer - and we only have a few pieces. Place of discovery: DOBROVA - DRAVOGRAD (UNTERDRAUBURG) - now SLOVENIA before 1918 AUSTRIA.
