AMMOLITHES are the iridescent - gem-like AMMONITES from the Cretaceous period. The name is legally protected for gemstones (cut and polished pieces) made of AMMOLITH from the AURORA MINE in Alberta/Canada. Whole AMMOLITHES with a beautiful play of color and a diameter of about 20 cm are sold, if available at all, for between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars.
Top-cut stones can be viewed as pendants at the luxury jeweler TIFFANY in NEW YORK and can also be purchased if you have the necessary change.
The only current site is on the St. Mary River in the province of Alberta.
