Black TURMALINE in old crystal MARBLE.
Cross-section of a typical PEGMATIT from the KORALPE in eastern Carinthia.
The piece was cut on all sides (not polished) to see how the TURMALINE and silvery MUSCOVITE are distributed in the PEGMATITE.
PEGMATITE is a special MAGMA that penetrates deep down in the earth's crust in cracks and fissures and then solidifies when it cools to around 450 degrees.
PEGMATITES consist of quartz, FELDSPÄTEN, GLIMMER and others, and TOPAS, SMOKE QUARTZ, TURMALINE, BERYLLE.... are also frequently found in these PEGMATITES.
