DRAVIT xx Magnesium TURMALINE
Named after the place where it was first found (TYPLOCALITY), which is located in the extreme southeast of Carinthia near Unterdrauburg.
First described by the Austrian scientist Prof. Tschermak in 1883, this ORANGE BROWN TURMALINE variety, completely unknown until then, was a mineralogical sensation and the crystals were presented in many museums and exhibitions.
Once again the name: The river DRAU flows from South Tyrol via East Tyrol through Carinthia to Slovenia to the Danube. The site where it was found was in DOBROVA/UNTERDRAUBURG near the Drau. As the site is in the Slovenian language area, the DRAU is called DRAVE there - hence the name DRAVIT.
