HüttenbergER "AMETHYST" was the name given to these pieces by the miners at the time.
AMETHYST as such is of course not!
The small, clear quartz crystals get this bluish-purple color from the layers of blue CHALCEDON on which they have grown.
The parent rock is SIDERIT - brown ironstone, IRON IONS give the otherwise white CHALCEDON its bluish color.
