Saualpe Whitsun Monday 2010: In the large EKLOGIT blocks at approx. 1,8oo m above sea level, there is a happy surprise for collectors every now and then.
On the Saualpe in eastern Carinthia, a mountain range 2,000 m high and approx. 20 kilometers long, over 300 different minerals have already been identified, including the type locality of ZOISIT .
EKLOGIT is actually a not very common metamorphic rock and consists of varying proportions of the minerals GRANATE and PYROXENE with minor components of CYANITE (DISTHEN) RUTIL, HORNBLENDE, ZOISITE and quartz.
