Dove-blue, translucent CHALCEDON veins in brown SIDERITE xx (= iron ore = BROWN IRON STONE) and free standing quartz crystals Var.
The miners in Hüttenberg called these pieces "AMETHYST" because of the bluish-purple color of the quartz crystals. However, the color is caused by the blue CHALCEDON shimmering through the background. Real AMETHYSTE, however, have their color from iron ions and radioactive radiation embedded in the quartz crystal lattice.
But that is precisely why these Hüttenberg "AMETHYSTE" RARITIES .
