The stones come from the former underground mining of garnet on the Laufenberg on the Millstätter Alpe, where the mined garnet was further processed as an abrasive, the garnets worthy of grinding were brought to Bohemia, ground and processed into the "Bohemian garnet jewelry", which was highly sought after in the K & K period.
